The purpose of this clinical assignment is to enhance students’ understanding and application of evidence-based practice (EBP) in nursing. Students will select a specific nursing task and critically evaluate the available evidence to inform their practice.
This assignment can be completed as a slide presentation, a paper, or a concept map. Your instructor will assign this as either an individual or small group project.
Part 1: Selecting a Nursing Task (Administering oxygen therapy)
- Choose a specific nursing task or procedure that is commonly performed in a clinical setting from the following areas: Respiratory, Infection, Genitourinary, Gastrointestinal, Musculoskeletal
Part 2: Literature Review and Evidence Appraisal
- Conduct a comprehensive literature review on the selected nursing task.
- Identify at least three (3) recent and relevant research articles, guidelines, or systematic reviews related to the chosen task.
- Summarize the key findings and recommendations from the literature review.
Part 3: Development of an Evidence-Based Protocol
- Based on the literature review and evidence appraisal, create an evidence-based protocol for performing the selected nursing task.
- Include the following components in the protocol:
- Rationale for the chosen approach
- Step-by-step procedure
- Safety considerations
- Equipment and resources needed
- Monitoring and assessment parameters
- Documentation requirements
Part 4: Reflective Analysis
- Discuss the following in the reflection:
- How the evidence-based approach contributed to patient safety and quality of care
- Personal insights gained from this experience
- Areas for improvement in current clinical practice.
